Kentucky bill aims to remove feminine hygiene product tax

FRANKFORT, Ky. – State representative Lisa Willner is joining other advocates to promote a bill that would eliminate taxes on menstrual products, such as pads and tampons.

Currently, 23 states and Washington, D.C. have passed legislation making period products tax-exempt.

Individual women can spend up to $18,000 on period products in their lifetime, according to the National Organization for Women in Kentucky.

But that is not all House Bill 142 would do – it would also bolster funding for those products in public schools, meaning students could receive feminine hygiene products as needed for free while they are in school.
