Construction at Romanza Johnson Park
WARREN COUNTY, Ky. – Warren County Stormwater is preparing to undertake a sizeable construction project at Romanza Johnson Park.
The waterway requires lifting part of the upstream portion in order to slow erosion of the soil. This will not only make the waterway more useful for recreation but it will slow the sediments from erosion from flowing downstream which can ultimately lead to things like sinkholes and other issues over time.
The ford in the river is also going to be blasted out of the way to widen the waterway which will make the flow of the stream more even. There will also be natural materials like boulders and the roots of large trees that must be removed for the construction used to bolster the integrity of the banks.
Public outreach coordinator for WCS Andrea Strange is excited that the project will ultimately make the area more accessible for more people to enjoy the area.
“We’re adding in a handicap accessible walkway to the field out there so everybody can enjoy the park and enjoy the creek and they’re going to be two access points to get down to the creek that are going to be stairs so people can get down there and play on the water,” Strange said.
The construction may begin as early as Tuesday, Dec. 12. WCS hopes to have most of the construction finished by Spring so that people can return to the area for recreation.
