Kentucky Judicial Commission on Mental Health to stop in Warren County
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Kentucky Judicial Commission on Mental Health is finishing its town hall tour at the Sloan Conference Center Wednesday evening.
The purpose of the tour is to hear the lived experiences of the people who have had mental health or addiction related law enforcement interactions and/or incarceration.
By listening to and learning from these experiences, it is hoped that the commission can make a set of advisory guidelines which law enforcement, courts and correctional facilities can use to better serve those across the Commonwealth who struggle with mental health disorders or addiction.
KJCMH administrator Shawna Mitchell calls it a listening tour and says that the commission has heard some incredible testimonies from people who have successes and issues.
“We needed to hear from individuals with lived experience about the success is and also the barriers that they encountered when they went through the behavioral health in the court system. So we set out on a listening tour at the end of August and Bowling Green will actually be our final stop tomorrow night,” Mitchell said.
People with these types of experiences are encouraged to attend and share their stories. For more information visit https://kycourts.gov/KJCMH.
