Broadway UMC Church group returns from Israel

BOWLING GREEN Ky. – The group from Broadway United Methodist Church in Bowling Green arrived back home in the US on Saturday night after being stuck in Israel when the conflict that began on Oct. 7 ignited. The group was able to move into neighboring Jordan and was ultimately able to return home from there.

Though they were spared the sight of much of the conflict, Greenwood Campus Pastor Lauran Vincent reported being in a idyllic place that seemed untouched by much of the conflict.

“It was this strange contrast for us. We knew it was happening, but we couldn’t necessarily see it. And because we stayed busy, we weren’t necessarily caught up in the 24 hour news cycle watching everything happen in in real time. And so it was it was just an interesting experience because I feel like my my family and my friends back here were far more anxious than we were,” Vincent said.

Senior Pastor Adam Shourds never believed the group was in a great deal of danger and gave a great deal of praise to the guides that the group hired for ensuring their safety and smooth travel regardless of the circumstances they found themselves in.

“I think we had just a tremendous group of people. And so we were able to really still have our trip in a lot of ways, still see a lot of things. And actually to see some things that we didn’t expect to see. And pretty much everybody said they would go back and they had a good experience,” Shourds said.
