WCPS bus staff recruitment event encourages public to try new career

WARREN COUNTY, Ky. – On Saturday, the public was invited to try out a new set of wheels.
From 8 a.m. to noon, Warren County Public Schools held its first ever open chance to drive a school bus. The district offered the opportunity in hopes of getting new applicants to be bus drivers and monitors.
Michelle Dennis with WCPS says the district has been facing a shortage for “quite some time.”
Dennis says, “Kids are awesome. I mean, you’re the first smile that they see in the morning and the last smile that they see in the afternoon. So making a difference in a child’s life to me is everything.”
At Saturday’s event, the district opened up the option to get an idea of the job with a trainer and drive around the parking lot.
Bus monitors on the other hand are needed on every bus for 3-year-olds and 4-year-olds to get on and off the bus to make sure those children get to school and home safe, according to Dennis.
Dennis says you must be at least 21 years old, have a valid Kentucky driver’s license, a high school diploma or GED and a good driving record if you want to be a bus driver.
If you’re interested in either job, go to the district’s website and apply for a district bus driver position or call the transportation office and ask for Dennis.
