Beat the heat: How you can help local wildlife in hot temperatures

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- Home for a few of our feathered friends could be impacted by the high heat. This week could be harmful to many local birds.

Birds move less in extremely hot temperatures. This makes it more difficult for the birds to reach water sources and eat. Researchers say you can help by building bird baths and adding natural shade to your to your yard.

“On the land scape itself is incorporating native species on the landscape. Planting native plants that can produce food in the form of berries, seeds, nuts, that kind of stuff can be extremely beneficial,” according to Thomas Young, regional coordinator at the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources.
