Drug maker announces insulin cap at $35 per month

KENTUCKY-Eli Lilly has announced that it will cap the price of insulin at $35 per month.

Norton Children’s and Healthcare physicians with the Wendy Novak Diabetes Institute said this is truly life changing for their patients.

Nearly 500,000 Kentuckians have Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes- that’s 14% of the state’s population.

This ranks Kentucky as the eighth worst state for diabetes.

Diabetics need to take insulin so they can regulate their blood sugar levels.

“Insulin has historically been a very expensive drug and it’s a life altering drug, a life saving drug. And all of us in the medical field know of patients who will ration their insulin because frankly they can’t afford it,” said Wendy Novak Diabetes Institute Pediatric Endocrinology Dr. Bradly Thrasher.

Norton currently cares for 69,000 diabetic patients. About 1,400 of that number are children.
