WCPS high school students honor life of Martin Luther King Jr. with 9th annual performance
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.-Students at Warren County high schools are honoring the life of Martin Luther King Jr. for the 9th year in a row.
For the first time in event history, all four high schools banded together to form a 100+ person district choir.
The student-lead ceremony also featured student essays and readings honoring Dr. King’s life.
An art contest was held for all students, and the winning works of art were on display in the hallway.
“I think it’s a good reminder to our Bowling Green community about what we can do to continue the legacy of Dr. King, I know sometimes it feels far away or that it only happens in big cities, but it’s a good reminder that we can make change,” said WCPS senior Divine Irakiza.
“We wanna make sure we wanna celebrate and recognize the accomplishments and the dream that we wanna keep alive for Martin Luther King and as each generation goes forth and comes on we wanna make sure they remember and we can keep the dream alive,” said Warren East Middle School Youth Services Coordinator David Emerson,
Each year is a different theme. This year’s theme was ‘Until Justice Runs Down Like Waters and Righteousness Like a Mighty Stream’.
