An inside look at Warren County’s newest school

16,000 students will return to school on Wednesday in Warren County. Of those 16,000 students, 600 will be the first to ever walk through the doors at the district’s newest school, Jennings Creek Elementary.

The $20 million, 90,000 square foot facility located on Russellville Road features over three dozen classrooms, with state of the art safety features and green technology.

"We’ve been known for years to build amazing facilities," said Chris McIntyre, the chief financial officer of Warren County Schools. "I think this one is second to none."

One of the neatest features is what the district refers to as flex seating. Each classroom has standard seats, but students will also have the opportunity to learn while seated on bean bag chairs and bouncy balls. Jennings Creek is the first school in the district to implement flex seating in each classroom.

"The attention span, especially with younger children, is much less these days due to technology. This gives them the opportunity to be a little anxious in their seats. Hopefully it will calm them down and allow them to get their energy out and still focus on what’s going on in the classroom," said McIntyre.

Students aren’t the only ones excited to enter their new school. Teachers like, Shante Galloway, are certain their kids will excel, not only in a brand new building, but with a brand new curriculum.

"We are going to be doing new and different things. I’m excited about the results that we are going to make and help our children make," said Galloway, who has been teaching for the last 11 years. "We are here to support them and pull what they don’t see on the inside, out, and I’m excited for what’s to come."

The district held an official ribbon cutting ceremony and open house at the school last Sunday.
