Day of Caring: Book donation box created for local homeless shelter
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – At least 50 nonprofits across South Central Kentucky are praising the volunteers who participated in United Way’s Day of Caring.
Hundreds of individuals and businesses coordinated teams to tackle projects throughout our community today.
One of those projects included building a lending library at the Room in the Inn, a local homeless shelter that provides meals and services.
Volunteers from Farmers Bank and Trust painted and stocked the shelves with books for those without a home.
“I used to work at the health department at the Barren River Health Department, and they have a lot of empty filing cabinets in the basement, and then I asked them if we could borrow it at the Room in the Inn and use it as a lending library so people could read more books,” said Jarod Hines, program coordinator at Room in the Inn.
