Epicenter owner Ron Winchell talks Preakness race

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.-Kentucky Derby favorite and Bowling Green born Epicenter is headed to the Preakness this weekend after taking second in the Derby. 

News 40 talked to owner Ron Winchell today who said he was very confident that Epicenter would have won the Derby and that it was heartbreaking to get beaten down the wire. 

He said there’s not much preparation between the Derby and the Preakness, as the Derby is such a grueling race. 

They’re going into the Preakness hoping to win…they are the favorite for this race as well. 

“You love and hate to be the favorite. It’s good because everyone’s validating where your ability is and then the second part is you pretty much have a target on your back,” said Winchell. 

He said no one in his family has ever won a Triple Crown race…placing in 2nd and 3rd multiple times.
