Jail plans to upgrade inmate management software
Warren Fiscal Court voted today to allow Jailer Stephen Harmon to enter into negotiations for new inmate management software that he said will held the jail run more efficiently.
Harmon is trying to replace the jail’s current software that is about 17 years old.
The new system will better handle information such as stay aways, which are notations that show jail staff which inmates have to be kept away from each other, inmate medical information and financial account information for each inmate.
“The biggest things are managing stay aways and inmate housing arrangements and allowing for that interface with the inmate communication system hopefully in the fall that will allow for automating inmate communications such as commissary orders, grievances, medical requests and other day-to-day requests,” Harmon said.
Jail Tracker, which is used in 82 county jails in Kentucky, is the only company that bid on the software project with $201,082 bid, he said.
Harmon will now begin the negotiation process with Jail Tracker representatives. The cost of the software will be paid through a grant.
