Trump backs Kim Jong Un, slams Joe Biden
(NBC News) President Trump and the First Lady return to Washington Monday after spending the Memorial Day weekend in Tokyo, where the President broke with Japan’s Prime Minister on North Korea’s recent missile launches, discussed trade issues and lobbed an attack against former Vice President Joe Biden.
During a news conference Monday, President Trump disagreed with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, and his own national security advisor, on whether North Korea’s short-range missile tests violate international security agreements.
“I view it differently” said Mr. Trump. “I view it as a man, perhaps he wants to get attention. And perhaps not. Who knows?”
Despite being far from Washington, the president didn’t miss an opportunity to blast Joe Biden, who he’s running against in next year’s presidential election. North Korea’s Kim Jong Un recently criticized Biden as having a low I.Q. and Mr. Trump told the world he agreed with that assessment.
The president is catching heat for that comment back home in Washington, where Attorney General William Barr is looking into the origins of special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian election meddling. Mr. Trump has given Barr the authority to declassify top-secret information, and he’s directed 15 agencies, including the CIA, to tell the attorney general everything they know.
