Former football standout, Nacarius Fant, accused of selling cocaine

Former Bowling Green High School and Western Kentucky University football standout, Nacarius Fant, 22, was arrested Tuesday on cocaine trafficking charges.

Detectives with the Bowling Green-Warren County Drug Task Force conducted a six-week investigation during which time, they said they identified Fant as a cocaine dealer, according to a release from the task force.

Kentucky State Police along with a KSP K-9 team took Fant into custody Tuesday during a traffic stop at the corner of Regents and Chestnut Streets, according to the release.

He is charged with four counts of first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (cocaine) greater than or equal to four grams and one count of first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance less than four grams (cocaine), according to his arrest citation.

Fant is accused of selling cocaine to a confidential informant on four different occasions, according to his citation. All of the transactions were recorded.

During the Tuesday traffic stop, police said in Fant’s citation that they found less than four grams of suspected cocaine and $480 cash. The substance police said they found field tested positive for cocaine, according to his arrest citation.

Fant was a wide receiver at WKU until exhausting his eligibility in December 2017. 

Fant remains registered as a student for the upcoming fall semester working toward a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies, WKU spokesman Bob Skipper said.

“Three-time 5A state champion and the 2013 Kentucky Mr. Football, Fant joined the Tops after a standout career at Bowling Green High School for coach Kevin Wallace,” according to Fant’s bio on the WKU sports website. ”Fant tallied 1,701 receiving yards and 25 touchdowns on 83 receptions as a senior and finished with 4,487 yards and 62 touchdowns on 227 career receptions. Fant holds every single-game, single-season and career receiving record at BGHS… .”

Fant played at WKU from 2014 through 2017 and led WKU football last year in both receptions and receiving yards with 74 catches for 704 yards. In 2016, Fant was named to the All-Conference USA First Team as a punt returner.

Fant was lodged in the Warren County Regional Jail and a bond had not been sent as of 4:39 p.m. Tuesday.
