Rep. Guthrie addresses hearing on energy crisis

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- We’ve all been experiencing high prices at the gas pump. On Wednesday, News 40 talked with U.S. Congressman Brett Guthrie about the energy crisis and his thoughts behind it.

The House of Representatives Energy and Commerce Committee have asked oil and gas executives to testify about potential price gouging. Guthrie is a senior member of the committee.

Guthrie says if they find evidence the executives are price gouging they should be prosecuted, but he believes there is a different explanation for the high prices.

Guthrie says the hearing is a camouflage for decisions democrats have made on energy, saying President Biden won’t expand drilling in other parts of the country.

“We’re down two million barrels of oil a day than we were a year or so ago. And it started before Putin, you wanna say Putin’s the price riser, he made us dependent on Putin. So if you make yourself dependent on Putin’s oil then you make yourself vulnerable to the dictator’s actions,” said Guthrie.

The executives will testify before the committee on April 6th.
