Remains of Korean War veteran with Bowling Green ties return to US
Army Private First Class Joe Elmore, a soldier with ties to Bowling Green, who went missing in action in North Korea, is now back home.
There were tearful moments as his remains came out of a plane at Nashville International Airport this afternoon.
Elmore had been missing in action for 67 years.
After his sisters sent their DNA to the government, a perfect match came back in July.
Mary Bowlin says, she had always hoped her brother was alive, but she is comforted knowing he isn’t a prisoner of war.
Bowlin says her brother loved God and his country.
He had a burning desire to fight for the things he loved, even if it meant giving the ultimate sacrifice.
Elmore’s funeral will take place this Saturday.
The ceremony will be held at 1:00 P.M. at the Albany United Nazarene Church, followed by a burial at Story Cemetery.
