FRANKFORT, Ky. – Gov. Andy Beshear is asking Kentuckians to remain cautious after the state confirmed five deaths this week from winter weather.

According to a release by the governor’s office, the deaths include a 58-year-old woman in Daviess County, a 60-year-old man in Fayette County, a 44-year-old woman in Floyd County, a 78-year-old man in Oldham County and a 61-year-old man in Woodford County.

“Britainy and I are praying for our Kentucky families who have lost their loved ones,” Beshear said. “Everyone, please take time today to check on your family, friends and co-workers and make sure they have what they need to stay safe and warm.”

Right now, the National Weather Service says much of the state will see wind chill values five to 15 degrees below zero on Saturday morning, while those values will remain at a frigid minus 10 degrees on Sunday morning.

This condition could cause frost bite on exposed skin in only 30 minutes.

The state may be able to expect some relief Monday afternoon, when temperatures should return to the low- to mid-40s, the governor’s office says.

If you must travel, the governor urges drivers to have an emergency kit in their vehicle and to travel slowly. However, drivers are encouraged to stay off of the road if possible. You can view the latest road conditions here.
