UPDATE: 2-year-old dies after being found in body of water in Logan County

RUSSELLVILLE, Ky. – A small child has died after being found in a small body of water in Logan County, authorities say.

Logan County sheriff Stephen Stratton confirmed Thursday morning that the child died late Wednesday afternoon.

Around 11:11 a.m. Wednesday, the Logan County Sheriff’s Office says it responded for a missing 2-year-old female that had walked away from a home on Pleasant Drive in Russellville.

Preliminary reports suggest the child went missing in a corn field, deputies stated in a release Wednesday.

The release further states the sheriff’s office and Russellville Police Department began to search the cornfield.

Logan County Search and Rescue personnel and emergency management, as well as first responders, joined the search, along with neighbors of the surrounding area, according to deputies.

The release states the child was located in a small body of water.

According to the release, the child was found unresponsive, and CPR began immediately by law enforcement and EMS personnel. The child was rushed to Med Center Health in Russellville.

Emergency Room personnel were able stabilize the child, and the child was flown to Vanderbilt Children’s hospital in critical condition.

The sheriff’s office says it will not be releasing any information regarding the identity of anyone involved in this investigation at this time. They ask to respect the privacy of all involved families.

Logan County Sheriff’s Office along with Child Protective Services will be working on the investigation jointly and will do an update as soon as more information is available. Russellville City Fire Department along with The Logan County Burden Barriers and Auburn Police Department also assisted on scene.
