2 dead following Berea bank robbery, suspect and victims identified

According to ongoing coverage from LEX 18, the identities of both of the victims and of the suspect connected to Thursday’s bank robbery in Berea have been released.

LEX 18 reports an affidavit filed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation identifies 18-year-old Brailen Weaver as the suspect that entered a U.S. Bank in Berea before allegedly shooting and killing two bank employees just after 2 p.m. Thursday.

Those employees have been identified as 35-year-old Breanna Edwards and 42-year-old Brian Switzer, according to LEX 18.

Trooper Justin Kearney, public affairs officer for the Kentucky State Police Post Seven, confirmed Friday morning that a person of interest in the case had been taken into custody.

This follows after the suspect reportedly fled the scene Thursday.

LEX 18 reports authorities located a silver BMW driven by the suspect traveling at a high speed Thursday night, leading to a pursuit that reached an end in Fayette County.

According to LEX 18, law enforcement stated the search crossed throughout central Kentucky, including “Stanford, Somerset, Rockcastle County and Lexington.”

Trooper Justin Kearney, public affairs officer for the Kentucky State Police Post Seven, confirmed Friday morning that a person of interest believed to be involved in Thursday’s Berea bank robbery is in custody.

BEREA, Ky. – Two people are reportedly dead, and a suspect is being sought by law enforcement after a bank robbery in Berea.

That’s according to a report by LEX 18, which confirms the victims were employees of the bank.

According to Trooper Justin Kearney, public affairs officer for the Kentucky State Police Post Seven, an individual pictured above is the suspect in the robbery that occurred earlier Thursday at a U.S. Bank in Berea.

The suspect is described as approximately 6 feet 3 inches tall and was last seen wearing a light-colored hooded sweatshirt, dark gloves, gray pants and light-colored athletic shoes.

Authorities say the suspect ran from the scene toward East Chestnut Street in Berea.
