15-year-old charged with murder after collision in Hardin Co.
ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. – A 15-year-old is facing a murder charge after one person died in a collision following a pursuit.
Troopers say they responded to a request for assistance with a collision from Elizabethtown police early Friday morning.
The Kentucky State Police says it responded shortly after 3 a.m. to the intersection of Highland Avenue and Valley View Drive in Vine Grove.
Authorities say a preliminary investigation found that an Elizabethtown officer tried to stop a 2010 Ford Flex for speeding on North Dixie near Baptist Health Hardin. This is when authorities say a pursuit began after the Ford sped away, continuing onto North Dixie before reaching Joe Prather Parkway.
Troopers say the pursuit ended at the intersection of Highland Avenue and Valley View Drive within Vine Grove after the driver lost control.
KSP says they learned the driver was a 15-year-old male.
A passenger in the vehicle, Jamari Whitfield, 20, of Radcliff, Kentucky, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Hardin County Coroner’s Office. The juvenile was transported by Hardin County EMS to the University of Louisville Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
He was later released and taken to the Warren County Regional Juvenile Detention Center, where he was charged with murder.
This investigation remains ongoing.
