York signs to play football at Georgetown College

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Wednesday evening in the South Warren High School library, Spartan football star Kayden York signed his letter of intent to continue his career at Georgetown College.

It would be an understatement to say that York was an important piece of the Spartans’ run to the Class 6A championship in 2025, as the senior was a do-it-all athlete that made high-level plays every single week.

The major honors in his final year include being named Class 6A District 2 Player of the Year and being named to the Courier-Journal’s First Team All-State Defense.

York was in the endzone often in 2025, scoring a total of 150 points, which ties him with Cameron Harrison (2018) for the most a single player has put up in on season in South Warren history.

Most of those points were on the offensive side of the football, where York was a powerful running back for head coach Brandon Smith.

Rushing for over 1000 yards and 21 touchdowns charted York as one of the best backs in the Bluegrass, and he was a reliable receiver too, catching 26 passes for 287 yards and three touchdowns.

His abilities as a defensive back also shined during his senior season, with York tallying 32 tackles (two for loss), four interceptions (one returned for a touchdown), and one forced fumble.

York now heads roughly two and a half hours northeast to Georgetown, where he will join the Tigers who have been a hot spot for many local talented players across southcentral, Kentucky.

“ I never would’ve thought that I would make it this far. Obviously, a lot of people dream of making it to college and going at the next level. As a freshman, I was too small and so that’s the biggest doubt, size, so I never let it stop me and so I pursued it and it got me to where I am now,” York said.

“I plan on taking my leadership skills and what I’ve learned from South Warren and building it at Georgetown as well, and also learning new things from their program so it’ll make me a better person and a better football player.”
