EDMONSON COUNTY, Ky. – A Smiths Grove woman was saved just before a vehicle caught fire following a crash in Edmonson County.

According to Edmonsonvoice.com, the Edmonson County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were dispatched to the scene of a wreck at 2:19 p.m. Monday in the 1700 block of Louisville Road.

Deputies say 56-year-old Karen Johnson of Smiths Grove was driving north when she allegedly had a medical episode, leading her car to leave the road and strike a utility pole.

The sheriff’s office stated a nearby resident, identified as Jakob Maynard, pulled Johnson to safety moments before the car ignited into flames.

Authorities say Johnson was treated for non-life-threatening injuries before she was transported to a hospital in Bowling Green.

In addition to the sheriff’s office, the Rocky Hill, Chalybeate and Brownsville Fire Departments also responded to the scene, along with Edmonson EMS and Warren RECC.
