Woman killed in early morning wreck in Monroe County

TOMPKINSVILLE, Ky. – A Tompkinsville woman is dead following a two-vehicle collision.

Kentucky State Police investigated the wreck on Ky. 163 at 6:24 a.m. Friday.

Nicholas Cunningham, 35, of Tompkinsville was operating a 1998 Mack dump truck traveling north on Ky. 163 inside Tompkinsville, according to a release from KSP.  Cunningham was stopped to make a left hand turn into J. Stephens Construction, when a 2013 Audi being operated by Melissa Nelson, 52, of Tompkinsville struck the rear of the dump truck. 

Nelson was not wearing her seat belt and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Monroe County Coroner, according to the release. Cunningham was uninjured and wearing his seat belt.
