Woman facing DUI charge after nearly wrecking with child in vehicle

CAVE CITY, Ky. – A woman is behind bars after police say she drove under the influence with a child in the vehicle in Cave City.
An officer was traveling Wednesday around 7:39 p.m. on Happy Valley Street when he says a black pickup truck pulled out in front of him, nearly causing a collision.
According to a uniform citation by the Cave City Police Department, the truck then ran through a red light at the intersection of Happy Valley Street and South Dixie Highway.
The vehicle crossed over the center line and nearly struck another vehicle head on, police say.
Police then conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver. They say the driver, identified as Josephine Garmon, 32, of Horse Cave had a strong odor of alcoholic beverage coming from her breath.
Garmon stated she had drunk whiskey that day, police say.
Police say they determined Garmon was “manifestly under the influence of an alcoholic beverage” and put her child in imminent danger from almost causing multiple collisions.
Garmon was arrested and took a breath test, which police say resulted with a .267. According to police, Garmon “continued to laugh and think the situation was funny and a joke.”
Police say court records confirmed this is the third DUI charge for Garmon within a decade.
Garmon is charged with reckless driving, no registration plates, no registration receipt, failure of owner to maintain required insurance, first offense, first-degree wanton endangerment and operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, third offense (aggravated circumstances) .
Garmon was transported to the Barren County Detention Center.
