Woman dies in weekend house fire in Edmonson County

MAMMOTH CAVE, Ky. – One woman is dead following a house fire in the Mammoth Cave community.

According to EdmonsonVoice.com, first responders were dispatched to the 1500 block of Brier Creek Road around 1 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25 for a reported structure fire.

EdmonsonVoice.com reports the home belongs to Charles and Martha Smith.

Upon arrival, firefighters were told one of the four residents was still inside the home.

A woman that was still inside was later found dead. The Edmonson County Coroner’s Office has identified her as 72-year-old Vanessa Thompson.

The state fire marshal’s office will oversee the investigation as part of a standard process. News 40 will provide further information on this investigation as it is released.
