Kentucky woman charged with murder after body found

MANCHESTER, Ky. – A woman has been charged with murder after authorities say they were notified about a body in Clay County on Saturday.

Troopers responded to the area of Crawfish Road in Clay County, where they say they found 77-year-old Rufus L. Smallwood Jr., who was pronounced dead by the Clay County Coroner.

The Kentucky State Police says Smallwood was reported missing the day before he was discovered.

He also had visible injuries that suggested foul play, authorities say.

As a result, KSP arrested a female, 44-year-old John L. Couch of Manchester, Kentucky. She is charged with one count of murder and first-degree robbery.

Couch was taken to the Clay County Detention Center.

The investigation remains ongoing.
