Woman charged with 63 counts of animal cruelty

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Warren County Sheriff’s Office charged a Warren County woman with animal cruelty in connection to a alleged puppy mill in Alvaton.

Thursday afternoon, the WCSO received an anonymous tip of a puppy mill operation on Whitlock Road in Alvaton.

Animal Control Officer Lisa Henderson responded to the complaint and made contact with the homeowner Donna Byard.

During the investigation, the animal control officer and a sheriff’s deputy discovered 63 dogs that were living in unsanitary conditions, according to a release from the Warren County Sheriff’s Office.

Donna Byard was charged with 63 counts of second-degree cruelty to animals, and all of the dogs were removed from the property, according to her citation.

Byard told a deputy that she breeds dogs in a barn behind her home, according to her citation. The deputy noted feces covering the floor in their living space, feces built up in the drain the entire width of the barn and feces on the animals.

The animal control officer was assisted on the scene by WCSO deputies and the Warren County Humane Society.
