WNKY News 40 Health Report: Revisiting Resolutions

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The tree is down and the lights have been put away.

Now that we’re past the holidays, you may be struggling to keep your New Year’s Resolution.

Or, you may already have given up on it.

Dr. Christian Schrader, a Psychiatrist at Graves-Gilbert, says keeping a New Year’s resolution is best done in steps, by setting a small but attainable goal then advancing to a slightly more challenging goal once the first goal is met.

He says framing the resolution in a positive light can make a difference, such as setting a goal to learn new cooking techniques and adding vegetables instead of making a goal to give up a less-healthy food.

And, if you’re one of those who stopped pursuing your resolution, Dr. Schrader has some forgiving advice: Give yourself some grace.
