WKU’s Hammer In: Smashing success

Kids and adults learn from local blacksmiths

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Over on the hill, WKU’s weekend metal working demonstration was a smash hit!

At the Hammer-In presentation, people got to enjoy the free community event celebrating the metal workers’ trade, sanctioned by the Appalachian Area Chapter of Blacksmiths.

Sparks were flying as people from all around Bowling Green came to learn and create the basics.

Even kids got to practice their forge skills, hammering in their own metalworking creations.

Blacksmith Alan Eldred said he loves the craft because, “You get to take lot of aggression out on hot steel and hit it hard with a hammer. If you like to get burned and bleed and then make something out of nothing, it’s a good thing to do.”

Other highlights included forge demonstrations, tinsmithing demonstrations, aluminum pour demonstrations and a make-your-own pour.
