WKU volleyball holds Red and White scrimmage

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – WKU volleyball held its Red and White scrimmage over the weekend to celebrate the start of the season, which officially begins for the Lady Tops on August 30th in Lexington, Kentucky, against Moorehead State.

WKU is coming off a 30-5 record season and, as the reigning C-USA champs, have high aspirations heading into the 2024 season.

The team starts the season on a six-game road stretch, including a matchup with No. 9 Kentucky, until returning home to face No. 15 Tennessee in WKU’s home opener.

Head coach Travis Hudson and players spoke today on the toughness this team will need ahead of the intense opening schedule.

“Yeah, I think the number one word that comes to mind is toughness,” senior Katie Howard said, “I think that that’s something, as Haley said, that we focused on. And how exciting is it that we get to host those many people and that amount of great teams? I think it’s just an unreal opportunity that we can have in Diddle our senior year and all together.”

“You can roll through an easy schedule and have a poor RPI (rating percentage index), or you can be a 500 team and have an outstanding RPI,” Hudson said. “And with this year’s schedule, we’re going to be closer to the second one than we were the first one. This is not going to be a 13-0 out of the gate, I can assure you, but we’ll be in great shape if we can get to that point and do that, and this team will be tough and hardened and ready for what’s to come.”
