WKU VAMPY celebrates 40 summers

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The WKU Center for Gifted Studies is celebrating forty summers of the VAMPY program. VAMPY stands for verbally and mathematically precocious youth, and it provides a three-week summer camp for students who have completed a grade seventh through tenth and who also scored at or above the average for college-bound seniors on the SAT or ACTs. The classes at VAMPY provide an intense learning experience in subjects that they are interested in but may not be getting enough of in their regular school offerings.
“They’re radically different. When you spend that much time in a classroom in a single day, it’s night and day. They’re very engaging, hands-on, small groups. It’s a great place to learn a lot in a little bit of time,” said VAMPY alumni Wake Norris.
This year’s camp with 85 students continues through continues until July 6th on WKU’s campus. The 40th-anniversary ceremonies served as a reunion and allowed past participants to relive some of their fun experiences in VAMPY. More information on future summer camps can be found on the WKU Center for Gifted Studies page on WKU’s website.
