WKU unveils new Disaster Science Operations Center
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.-Western Kentucky University dedicated its new Disaster Science Operations Center.
The new center will bridge together students and staff who work in Meteorology, Emergency Management Disaster Science and Homeland Security Science.
The connection will improve emergency disaster mitigation, management and response.
With the tornado last year, these students were heavily involved in recovery efforts. They hope to continue to make a difference.
“It’s emotional. During my speech I got a little choked up because a lot of effort went into pulling this off. Just seeing the students and their hard work deliver us to this point is very rewarding to me,” said WKU meteorology professor and meteorologist Josh Durkee.
This project has been three years in the making.
