WKU students smash pumpkins at event for stress relief

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Many would agree that 2020 has been a stressful year. To help, students at Western Kentucky University had a chance to relieve some stress through a smashing good time.

Students were given the chance to pick up a sledgehammer and smash some leftover pumpkins Thursday. The event was called The Great Stress Squash, and it was hosted by WKU Housing and Residence Life.

The smashing event was held in between the Downing Student Union and Minton Hall. Before they get to take out some stress on the gourds, the students received gloves, eye protection and hand sanitizer.

Staff from Housing and Residence Life say they knew students needed a de-stressor, and this event was a great way to do it.

The pumpkins came from other WKU faculty and staff and Jackson’s Orchard.
