WKU student athletes ‘Pass It On’ by teaching leadership through sports
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.-Western Kentucky University student athletes are teaching youth the importance of leadership through sports.
On Saturday, elementary school students from Parker Bennett Curry played some basketball…and learned some great lessons at the ‘Pass It On’ event, sponsored by Meijer.
The WKU student athletes took the lessons that they’re taught throughout the school year at college, and ‘passed it on’ to the kids.
They had a ‘chalk talk’ this day, teaching the kids how to keep their cool and breathe through things. They reinforce the lessons throughout the day, while the kids do warm up drills, and then play against each other while the college students coach them.
“it’s so important to give back and we talk about maximizing your impact and whatever you’re passionate about for our student athletes and giving back to the community is definitely something that a lot of kids are passionate about so they’re doing a fantastic job coaching, helping these kids do better and grow,” said WKU Director of Student Athlete Career Development Collin Stoecker.
This was the third ‘Pass It On’ event this spring. There’s one more next weekend.
