WKU ROTC cadets fly to Fort Knox for the weekend

BOWLING GREEN Ky.-Some Western Kentucky University ROTC cadets were taken to the Fort Knox military post in a unique way.

The cadets left by chopper from the WKU Intramural fields. 11 cadets boarded to get their hands dirty with some training at Fort Knox for the weekend.

The cadets that left are all juniors and seniors and are looking to commission after they complete advanced camp.

ROTC Recruiting and Operations Officer for WKU, Brandon Smith said he’s proud of his cadets for making these strides.

“It’s exciting to see them as they grow up in the program. I see them come in as Freshman, and as they become a leader and grow, it’s unique to see them develop. Add in this extra experience and realistic training, it’s just really neat to see,” Smith said.

Next summer, these cadets will go back to Fort Knox to spend a few months in Cadet Summer Training.
