WKU political science professor on Trump shooting and how it may impact 2024 election

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – With the recent assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, it’s going to be something many people remember for years to come… but how much of an impact could it have on the election?

WKU Political Science professor Jeff Budziak says America has had a history of attempted political assassinations, but believes none have come this close since the Reagan administration.

He also says this is going to be a moment that many people talk about for years to come… but how exactly could it sway voters in November?

“While it’s easy to speculate about all the different ways this can happen, I think it’s very hard to say with any confidence ‘This will definitely help former President Trump or President Biden’ or ‘This will make us more divided’ or ‘Maybe this will make us more unified.’ I think there’s just a lot of different ways things could go as a result of this,” Budziak says.
