WKU Player of the Week: Lady Hilltopper forward Josie Gilvin

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – After an impressive win for the Lady Hilltopper basketball team last weekend that saw WKU snap Middle Tennessee State’s 33-game conference win streak, today’s WKU Athletics Player of the Week is awarded to junior forward Josie Gilvin.

Gilvin put up 17 points, six rebounds and five steals in the 63-58 victory over the Blue Raiders.

10 of those points came in the final seven minutes of the game when WKU came back from being down four points to eventually winning by five points.

Also, in the final 30 seconds of the game, Gilvin had a significant offensive rebound that lead to a layup by Alexis Mead to seal the win.

This was Gilvin’s second time this season leading the Lady Tops in scoring and seventh game leading the way in rebounds.

After averaging about 4.8 points and 2.7 boards last season, Gilvin has stepped up in big ways for her team this year, with head coach Greg Collins happy to see her hard work come to light.

“Josie’s always been a winner,” Collins said. “Yes, she’s worked really hard in this spring and summer, and now I think we’re seeing some of the fruits or results of that work. She continues to go out every day in practice. She just shows up and gets after it, challenges everyone and really kind of sets that bar for what it means to be a star in your role.”
