WKU Player of the Week: Hilltopper wide receiver Matthew Henry
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – This week’s WKU Player of the Week honor goes to Hilltopper football wide receiver Matthew Henry!
In his WKU debut, Henry went off against Sam Houston racking up seven catches for 148 yards and one touchdown on Saturday night.
Henry is the first Tops receiver to eclipse 100 receiving yards in a game in 2025 and the first since Easton Messer did so last October against UTEP.
The transfer from Western Illinois came to Bowling Green after a season where he saw similar eye-popping numbers for the Leatherneck’s offense.
With over 1200 yards on the year, Henry put up five games with more than 100 and even saw two matchups with more than 200, as his season-high was at 242 yards against Gardner-Webb.
There was a lot of talk about new quarterback Maverick McIvor after the Week Zero win, but don’t sleep on Mr. Henry, who may just be the next best receiver to play at The Houch.
Henry had this to say postgame after his first outing of the season.
“ Really just keeping my foot on the gas and not letting my team down knowing it was a [our] first conference game,” Henry said. “The mentality was to go in the conference game [and come out] 1-0, so just not letting our foot off the gas and just coming back stronger that second half.”
