WKU Player of the Week: Hilltopper quarterback Rodney Tisdale Jr.

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – It’s that time of the week to reveal the Player of the Week on the Hill.
This one should come as no shock… it’s WKU football quarterback Rodney Tisdale Jr.
The redshirt freshman helped lead Western to the team’s first Homecoming win since 2021 this past Saturday over New Mexico State.
In the 35-16 victory, Tisdale Jr. threw for 301 yards for four touchdowns while completing 79% of his passes (30-for-38).
This was just the second career start for the Jacksonville, Florida, native.
And his first career start was about as memorable as any career start can get, with Tisdale Jr. leading WKU to an overtime win on the road at a LA Tech on October 21.
His stellar debut against the Bulldogs earned him the CUSA Freshman on the Week award, and the league was so impressed with him against the Aggies that he earned the honor again for the second consecutive week.
Of course, also applauding his performance was his coach.
“ I was very pleased with the quarterback play with Rodney,” head coach Tyson Helton said. “I thought even when something didn’t go his way – the defense makes a big stop, we try to take a shot, he throws an interception – he could have gone the tan, but he didn’t. He flipped the switch and got the offense going and we kept scoring from there. That’s what you want to see in a quarterback. You want to see them respond that way.”
