WKU Literacy Ambassadors deliver books to Bristow Elementary

WARREN COUNTY, KY.- Future teachers studying education are developing literacy for students of all ages across South Central Kentucky.
At Bristow Elementary, the literacy ambassadors delivered hundreds of books to seventy kids, giving them more opportunities to read at home, and instill the joy of reading back into kids one book at a time.

Aubry Weaver a WKU Literacy Ambassador tells us that after the pandemic, majority of students literacy levels declined. Aubry says,  “A lot of students who were impacted by COVID have not developed literacy skills at home, so now coming into the education system, they are lacking those skills. So being able to read at home and developing those fundamental skills at school is what’s going to help them to be able to become fluent readers.”

The WKU Literacy Ambassadors are giving out books nonstop. For more ways to be a part of increasing reading, visit https://www.wku.edu/ste/literacy-ambassadors/?fbclid=IwAR15dB8Nv4Fqbm9TdYPY5itDcuWzceJQrGKxX0jsXcmIza4a2scsWQI7AkI.
