WKU increasing enrollment efforts as the number of college applicants declines

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Western Kentucky University is trying to increase enrollment, this as fewer high school students around the state are choosing to go to college.
Last year more than half of the students admitted to WKU chose not to attend school there or anywhere else.
More and more high school students around the state are choosing to get a job rather than attend college.
WKU is expanding recruiting efforts to change that.
“More visits into Tennessee, where we’re pulling more students from that area, and even beyond. We’re engaging more alumni helping to recruit students for us from those areas. Basically, telling the story of why coming to WKU is a good investment,” said Bob Skipper, media relations director at WKU.
WKU also has plans to restructure the financial aid program to prevent tuition increases.
