WKU homecoming 2021 kicking off as planned

BOWLING GREEN Ky.-Friday marks the day Western Kentucky Hilltoppers have been patiently awaiting. Homecoming is kicking off.

The theme is ‘Wild Wild Western, Back in the Saddle Again. Friday and the following weekend will be filled with hilltopper spirit related events, including a parade, a volleyball game against Old Dominion, and Big Red’s Roar.

Speaking of the parade, the alumni association has made the announcement that the parade is in fact on, after close weather monitoring. The parade will start at 5 pm at the Hardin Planetarium.

This comes as last year’s events were extremely toned down due to covid restrictions, and university officials are thrilled to see homecoming for what it’s meant to be.

“We had a very pared down experience last year due to Covid and various safety restrictions. We’re just excited to be able to welcome people back to campus and celebrate homecoming in a way that we’re more accustomed to celebrating,” said WKU spokesperson and director of media relations Jace Lux.

For students like sophomore Olivia Miller, this is her first homecoming experience on the hill, and she’s ready to jump right in.

“I’m super excited to actually be able to experience it. I know a lot of people in my pledge class are sophomores, and we’re just like ‘we actually get to experience homecoming? what?’ We get to do things. We have a really good pairing this year. We’re with Phi Delta Theta,” Miller said.

Saturday, the hilltoppers will take on the charlotte 49ers at Houchens Smith Stadium.
