WKU football gears up for home opener
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – WKU football is preparing for their home opener against Eastern Kentucky on Saturday, September 7.
Both teams will be taking Fiex Field looking for a bounce back win after WKU lost to Alabama 63-0, and the Kerns fell to Mississippi State 56-7.
It will be the first time the two in-state rivals have met since 2017 when the Tops toppled EKU with a 31-17 win.
Now, WKU is gearing up to take on an EKU team that is going to bring their best game to Bowling Green.
“You know, they’re going to come out here and be ready to play,” WKU defensive coordinator Tyson Summers said. “It’s an important game for them, to the kids on that team and certainly to that staff. It’s personal and we’ve got to be ready to do both.”
“We really expect them to be on their A-game,” WKU wide receiver Dalvin Smith said. “They also had a disappointing loss from Mississippi State last weekend, just as well as we did. They’re trying to work through that tough loss and get that out of their minds, so they’re going to be coming in 100% on their A-game, but we’ll be ready for that and here to protect the house. ”
