WKU finishes 5th in national concrete canoe competition

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Many people spend their summer taking canoes and kayaks out on local rivers and lakes.

Others spend theirs racing them, but they aren’t your normal wooden boats.

Over the weekend, a group of civil engineering students from Western Kentucky University competed in the 2019 National Concrete Canoe Competition in Melbourne, Florida.

The Tops ended up placing 5th overall as well as top ten in several other categories during the three-day event.

WKU was one of just 24 schools from around the world to qualify for the event.

WKU’s concrete canoe was named, appropriately, “StalacTOP,” and weighed in at 207 pounds and measured 27 feet long.
