WKU edges rival MTSU, gets first win of 2020

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Terrell Pigrome threw for two touchdowns and the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers (1-2, 1-0) held off a late MTSU (0-4, 0-2) rally for their first win of the year on Saturday afternoon.

Pigrome accounted for 243 total yards and a pair of scores, including an 11-yard TD pass to Joshua Simon with six minutes left in the game, to propel the Tops to the 20-17 victory.

Blue Raiders QB Asher O’Hara made things interesting with a 2-yard TD pass to CJ Windham with 2:07 left to cut the Hilltoppers’ lead to 3, but WKU was able to run out the clock to secure the win.

Xavier Lane led Western Kentucky with 7 receptions for 73 yards and a score and Dayton Wade reeled in 7 catches for 66 yards to provide an offensive spark for the short-handed Tops.

WKU will return home to Houchens-Smith Stadium to host Marshall next Saturday at 6:30 p.m. local time.
