WKU Athletics department announces new undergraduate fellowship minority program
BOWLING GREEN Ky.-Western Kentucky University Athletics announced Wednesday, a brand-new program to expand diversity in the department.
The WKU Athletics Undergraduate Minority Fellowship Program will be dedicated to enhancing the success of students of color in the athletic department’s administrative areas.
WKU is looking to offer four undergraduate scholarships for students, exuding student athletes on athletic scholarship, interested in careers focusing on athletic administration.
Recipients will receive a $2,000 scholarship per academic year. Interested candidates may apply by Aug. 1.
“The main goal of the program hopefully is that they’ll be able to get experience over several years, it’ll make them more attractive candidates for grad assistant ships or entry level jobs, those things can turn into leadership positions, and that what we want to see. People being able to go from start to finish, get that experience with us, and one day end up in leadership positions in athletics,” said senior associate athletic director for communications Zach Greenwell.
Applicants need to be full time undergraduate students, completed fewer than 90 credit hours, maintain a 2.0 cumulative GPA, and earn at least 67 percent of attempted hours.
