Winter weather road conditions in Warren County
WARREN COUNTY, KY.- As temperatures are expected to dip below freezing, you can bet the snow and ice are here to stay this weekend. Everybody driving across the county and the region this weekend needs to be cautious, especially on secondary roads. You may be driving while the chilling temperatures drop. If you are, you need to be aware of your surroundings, because there is a large possibility the snow could become ice.
Casey Archey who is a part of Warren County emergency management staff shares the outcome of the day, and how it could impact people. He says, “Specifically this morning, we’ve seen again, we’re kind of on that range. Your larger, heavily traveled roadways are down to the pavement. Most of them are wet. There may be some isolated slick spots.”
Black ice on the roads is not always easy to see, and many assume that the roads are clear because the snow plows come through… However, Warren County Sheriff Hightower encourages everyone not to get too comfortable. He says, “Slick as these roads are I mean, people may not fully understand the fact that you’ve got a thin layer of ice underneath the snow, and so, you know, just always being aware of your surrounding and how fast you’re going and in the possibility of going into curves or making turns on roads, your car will lose traction. And when it loses traction, it begins to slide.”
To reduce the risk of an accident, it’s highly recommended that you just stay home unless you have to. If you find yourself stuck somewhere Warren County emergency management highly recommends that everyone carry an emergency bag with water non-perishable foods hot hand warmers and a blanket in case of an emergency.
