When you can expect to see peak fall season leaves
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The signs of fall are here.
Halloween decorations, pumpkins and that crisp autumn air you’ve been craving are coming this weekend.
You may have even noticed leaves starting to fall. The Bowling Green city arborist says that’s due to our lack of rain.
Despite so many signals of our incoming season, the highly anticipated colors of the changing leaves will take a little longer to arrive.
“The most important factor for fall color is actually the daylight,” City of Bowling Green arborist Jared Weaver says. “That’s why it’s kinda predictable around the end of October every year. It starts hitting northern Kentucky, and we’re a week or two later. The end of October and beginning of November is when we’ll start seeing peak fall color.”
Weaver says that our summer drought could play a part in how vibrant our fall colors will be.
A lack of rain can decrease the vibrancy of leaf colors, which means we could see less reds, scarlets and purples.
You can find more information about the changing colors of the season in our area during Tree Week, which begins Oct. 9.
