What to do with unwanted litters
BOWLING GREEN Ky. – Recently an individual was giving away free puppies in Bowling Green, this seemingly innocuous act is not always the best idea.
Kate Holmes, the marketing Coordinator at Bowling Green Warren County Humane Society says that puppies or kittens that are given away from their mother too early can have a myriad of problems and need special attention that is often difficult for humans to mimic. Therefore it is important to know how old puppies are before adopting them.
“If you happen to end up with a litter of puppies somehow or kittens is very important to know how old they are and reach out for help. So reach out to a vet. Reach out to your local shelter and see what kind of care these pets need.” Holmes said.
Holmes recommends getting all pets spayed and neutered, this is often low or no cost at the shelter and keeps pets from having unwanted litters. It even happens with indoor pets, and the best practice is to prevent it entirely.
