What is the true meaning of Memorial Day? A local veteran explains

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Many people see Memorial Day as a holiday to get off work or spend time with family, but it’s important to remember it’s not just about that.

At the American Legion Post in Bowling Green, veterans are set to be honored on Monday by their fellow heroes and the community.

That’s really what it’s all about… honoring those who fought for our country so we can live our lives in America.

“Everybody has some type of military connection… uncles, brothers, sisters, dads, granddads, whatever… and they want to honor those people… and they also honor any civilians that at the same time that are passed on,” Commander Malcolm Cherry with American Legion Post 23 in Bowling Green.

Commander Cherry says Mayor Todd Alcott is set to be a guest speaker at the ceremony on Monday.

He also says you can stop by to get a good meal and honor those who are no longer with us but sacrificed so much for our country.
